Thom Browne Curates Sotheby's 'Visions of America' Auction Series

The auction of over 500 items will begin this January.

Sotheby's revealed their latest auction to be curated by the iconic American designer Thom Browne. The auction, titled Visions of America, will open this January in New York City and showcase some of America's finest craftsmanship from an array of both private and institutional collections. Throughout the auction's week-long run, spectators will have the opportunity to view the exhibition, participate in events and other experiences, and bid on auctioned items. 

Browne's unique and innovative curation is inspired by all things distinctly Americana. Each item further expands on the beauty of American craftsmanship, culture, and creativity. The Chairman of the Council of Fashion Designers of America has had a distinct impact on American fashion as he questions the core of American dressing, experiments with modernity, and reaches outside of the fashion world into the world of fragrance, accessories, homeware, and most importantly, curation. Visions of America features over 500 works ranging from furniture pieces to paintings to manuscripts to Native art that date back as far as the 17th century. 

The collection includes fashion pieces, paintings, homeware, and furniture that define different facets of American style and culture dating back to the 18th century. Sotheby's will partner with Browne and the CFDA to donate auction proceeds to the CFDA Foundation, which provides scholarships and mentors to rising American designers. Auctions will take place in person and virtually from January 19-29.
